There was never a time when journalism was objective and reported the "truth" more accurately. The diversity of viewpoints is more noticeable these days because mainstream outlets are cash strapped and cannot afford to pay journalists to conduct research and interviews. They resort to regurgitating press releases and the self-serving utterances of politicians. The highest quality information is now found in newsletters and on podcasts - and Youtube when not censored.

Poor mainstream journalism along with the power of social media is exacerbating tribalism. Most worrying are the pro-authoritarian ideas coming out of academia these days that are taking us in the direction of totalitarianism. Vaccines are certainly going to be bad for humanity if they are used as a reason to curtail freedoms and control speech.

There is no room for certainty about complex medical and social matters. When mainstream medicine is viewed through a historical lens a remarkably large proportion of therapies turn out to be dangerous or counterproductive. It’s not just psychiatric drugs, it is also bloodletting, radium treatments, trepanning, lobotomies, Thalidomide, opioids, stents used prophylactically, DTP vaccines in Africa… to name just a few. In modern medicine over 30% of therapies end up being reversed. The well-researched book by Adam Cifu and Vinay Prasad, Ending Medical Reversal: Improving Outcomes, Saving Lives should be required reading for anyone who claims certainty.
